SRI LANKA JAFFNA
Programme to support and care for children affected by war
The district of Puthukudiruppu comprises 19 villages and is home to around 40,000 people, including 10,000 schoolchildren. Its population has been displaced several times and traumatised by the various disasters that have befallen the families.
The Holy Family of Bordeaux religious order has been active in Puthukudiruppu since:
1990
The aim of this programme is to give the young people confidence in themselves and create a non-violent society in the aftermath of a civil war that ravaged the country. It seeks to improve young people’s prospects for the future, help the high number of single-parent families, build women’s skills and, in this way, help improve education and families’ living standards.
